all is well

According to Pak, tt's what "tout va bien" means in English. Isn't that a nice name for a shop, or a restaurant? Its also the name of a neighborhood french bistro that we visited last night upon pakshun's request and to our surprise, it was a more delightful experience than we had first anticipated. The onion soup was hot, thick and oozing with gruyere cheese, the coq au vin was hearty, and mussels were a tad small but came in a hefty portion and swimming in yummy soup and the creme brulee had just the right amount of custard and caramelized crunch. Most importantly, the servers took time to engage in small talk, and was in no hurry to kick us out of the restaurant. When i smashed a wine glass out of clumsiness, they responded so kindly that they immediately put me out of my discomfort. Pak thinks the mark of a good restaurant is when they serve you things you didn't ask for. From tout va bien, we got complimentary glasses of dessert liquor, and from cafe boulud, the pricey but good french restaurant we visited the week before, we had some amuse de bouche and really awesome mini madeleines. Maybe its just our Singaporean nature and penchant for free things talking, but those were the two most memorable meals we had while pakshun was in town, besides thanksgiving meal of course =p... Now that he has left, i have to swear off french restaurants in the city, since those are places I go exclusively with him, but it doesn't stop me from recommending this quaint little place... I love tout va bien!
