work travels
I was out of town part of this week for a conference... ooohhh.... but before you fascinate anymore, all i went to was baltimore, home of the orioles, the inner harbor and espn zone maryland or something. When you live in new york city, there really isn't that many us cities that can offer anything more, except for the abundance of trees and the opportunity to breathe in some fresh air. Just today i had to walk on bloody fifth avenue, dodging crazy camera wielding tourists and inhaling exhaust fumes...
anyway, i used to think that travelling for work was fun, and would be envious of people who flew in and out of cities accumulating millions of frequent flier miles, like those who work for mfa and edb and consultants. Even tps travels a lot more than me.. i should have been in sell-side =p
However, travelling for conferences can be really exhausting in a way that work isnt. You're sitting there 7 hours a day hearing companies yap about how great their firms are, and then have to spend another 2-3 hours during lunch and cocktails socializing. God knows i hate socializing. Plus, your work doesn't stop when you're out of the office, so it means its sitting in your inbox waiting for you to clear it during the weekend =p
That being said, it was a great experience, and i probably will be glad to take up another chance to go somewhere to attend meetings... if only banks could go somewhere more glam, like south beach or las vegas =p
